At a party a couple of days ago (actually a couple of weeks ago now, as this one has been gestating in my drafts folder for a little while) I was sat between two “israelis”.
Excellent article but I disagree with your description of being Jewish. I was born Jewish, went to a Zionist Jewish school, Bat Mitzvah, Zionist youth group, Israel and lived on a kibbutz for a little while. I'm still Jewish, non practising, more Pagan in my practices. I do identify as an Anti Zionist. I'm beyond appalled and horrified at Israel's abhorrent atrocities against Palestinians. I'm called a self hating Jew often.I have Jewish friends, lost 1 50+ years long friendship. The Radicalised Zionist Fanatics weaponising antisemitism, drunk on the Zionist Koolaid propaganda bleating they're the victims not the occupying force makes me sick. I can't imagine the horror Palestinians are experiencing every moment of every day and night.
Thanks so much for your comment Linda. (Linda means 'beautiful', as no doubt you already know. If not, I'm glad to tell you!)
One of the things I'm trying to understand, and have been for years, is why Jewish identity, as such, remains so important to those who don't practice the Judaic religion, are non-zionist, not supremacist in their world view, etc. Forgive me for saying so, as this is nothing personal, but my understanding of "Jewishness" is that it inherently separates "the Jews" from the rest of Mankind, either by "chosenness" or by the uniqueness of "Jewish suffering" which is elevated above that of others and held as an almost religious sacrament in its own right.
Just from the few words you've shared here, and in keeping with the sentiments of my two Jewish friends introduced at the beginning of this essay, you don't strike me as anything other than a compassionate being, no different from the overwhelming majority of ordinary folk all over the world. So, what is it about "being Jewish" that causes you to hold on to that inherently divisive (to my thinking) 'identity'?
For the sake of clarity, and so you don't feel I'm attacking you (I'm not!) let me explain that I personally recognise all "identity" categories as ego-identities, so though, yes, I am singling out "Jewishness" as exceptionally divisive and destructive, that's because I see it as the most extreme of humankind's separate/separating ego-identities... religious practices notwithstanding (which is to say, ones religiousness is distinct (or ought to be) from ones "identity").
Forgive my very convoluted question! Of course I do understand if you choose not to reply to such a challenging perspective: I truly am trying to understand what it is about "being Jewish", for one who doesn't practice any Jewish religion, or go along with the political ambitions of Zionism, that causes you to continue to identify as Jewish, and thereby distinct and separate from the rest of mankind?
With love and gratitude for the time you've already taken to comment here. 🙏💚
I declare I'm Jewish to remind everyone that not every Jew is a Zionist. Judaism is a religion, passed on through the mother. That's all it takes to be a Jew. I don't believe we're chosen by God as anything special. Zionism is an ideology. I don't agree with it, I am anti Zionist. I believe the bible is a fairytale written by ciswhitehetero men to control the masses. I don't practice my birth religion because it doesn't make sense to me. I'm more spiritual than religious. I have a Higher Power rather than God.
I just saw your direct message, friend Picocentral. Substack kindly emailed it to me even though I’ve uninstalled their obnoxious app twice. 🥳
Anyway, thank you kindly for your very kind words. - It was almost certainly via Frank Wright's comment section that you found a link to my page. I did spam a couple of my posts there recently. But he didn’t mind at all. 🥸😁
There is so much truth in this Kali, but far too advanced and spiritual for the average human being to get behind. If I were a "Friend of Israel" I would be screaming at them that they are in mortal danger of losing their souls. Many who identify as Jewish are suffering in the way you describe. many are leaving Israel, especially after their term in the IDF (most moral army!!!) Many go to India to recover. These are people with a conscience and an understanding of the Divine within everyone, including those who are being slaughtered as we speak. God is a God of Justice first and foremost and a God of compassion, however we serve him. Justice and compassion in our hearts is what unites us a human beings.
As you know Zionism is a geo-political concept which is being used by the powerful colonisers, first of the UK then of the USA. It serves their purpose. They are using the insanity of the present rulers of Occupied Palestine for their own greed for power.
You cannot serve God and mammon. (basic teaching)Ironically, Jews, Christians and Islamist all have their routes in the same history!!
Zionism is the evil that exists in the world right now.
Many blessings to you Kali. You are so special, a shining light in the world.
Maybe you should send your writings to be published or read far afield.
Hey Kali, have previously commented on another of your pieces (then was booted off from here for being too edgy). But you really nailed it down in this piece, literally wrote it the way I'd have wanted to, stole the words from my mouth. Adding to what you said, a well-meaning SM commenter, and "an ally" to use contemporary terminology X:@kthalps uses "a jew in support of ceasefire now" -- and I find this dissonance causing. Why would one want to say it that way emphasising the jewishness? Your article is the perfect foil to that. Second, could you give me the source of Gilad Atzmon' quote you used "Jewish Power, as noted by Gilad Atzmon, is the power to deny the existence of Jewish Power". I've seen this used in a couple different ways and it always hits home.
Third: The closest parallel to your correct reading and stating of Jewishness "A supremacist notion of chosenness, of unique suffering and persecution,.." is erstwhile Indian Brahminism. It didn't have the suffering and persecution part (there was a bit of reverse discrimination between 1920s and say 1970s in the form of India-style affirmative action/quotas/compensatory discrimination in education and government jobs - which continues to this day but most Bs have reconciled to it) but definitely supremacist and to a lesser degree chosenness. Recall the 4 castes with Brahmins being on top of that and all that. These days most Brahmins have shed that notion in practice (i.e no discrimination) but perhaps there is a silently widely held feeling and notion of still being 'different' at least 'intellectually' - often not voiced. So similar to Jewishness but different. What I've said is still simplified and simplistic but it'll do for the note here.
Anyways, so glad to have rad your piece. it's nice to read relatable stuff
I've tried twice to post a quote from Gilad in the nature of Jewish Power, but both times my comments have vanished into thether!
Third time lucky..?
Wiley’s comments didn’t trigger the desirable, if heated, debate because Jewish power, as I define it, is the power to silence criticism of Jewish power. His tweets were initially removed by Twitter and as his twitter account is suspended.""
I'm very disappointed, though not really surprised, to learn you got booted from substack! -Is nowhere safe for free speech besides unz.com?!
In answer to your second question, Gilad Atzmon used to write a column for The Unz Review where he often stated the nature of Jewish power was to deny the existence of Jewish power. I'll see if I can find a quote and link shortly.
I agree, "a jew in support of ceasefire now", sounds/reads like utter BS to me. Point your 'ally' to this article if you can. - Let's see how he/she responds to the real question; the Jewish question.
On your comment re. Brahmins, I've only ever met one, here in Portugal where he manages an Indian food shop. A young guy, obviously (and rather innocently) proud of his Brahmin caste/status.
My calling/name was given to me by my Indian teacher, so though it is essentially Indian/Sanskrit I'm actually English and, though I would dearly love to, have not yet had the opportunity to visit that vibrant country. - My husband has, as have several friends, and so I heard wonderful (and sometimes shocking) takes of the place. God willing, one day I will go and taste and feel it for myself!!
Found one! - I got caught up reading a couple of Gilad's past articles, all of which I highly recommend!

Yes Kali, It is a good article. What is a Jew? That is indeed the most pressing and head scratching and disturbing question. I have spent decades on trying to understand, meeting people of Jewish extraction. I was also raised in one of the most densely Jew populated city in France and have been confronted with many humans related to that phenomenon, be it religious or cultural.
"Blonds as weapon of mass destruction or the poison gas of Christine"
When a Jew breeds with a Gentile, then the lineage is broken and the children cease to be Jews, thus that Rav claiming that the interbreeding has killed more Jews than the "shoas"...
Judaism is through the mother. If the mother is Jewish, her children are Jewish. My (x) husband is not Jewish. My kids are confirmed as Jewish. They had Bat Mitzvahs at a synagogue. If the father is Jewish but not the mother, the children are not considered Jewish unless the mother converted. Orthodox Jews have the strictest laws for conversion. Liberal Judaism is easier to convert but Orthodox Jews don't accept them as Jewish. Hope this makes sense to you. Let me know if there's more explanations required 😊

When myself, my sister and brother were children, dearest Lionel, we often played at being horses. Thank goodness it was a more sane age back then and we were not encouraged to identify as such! 🤣
Yes, Bugey Libre moves like an animal while identifying as a soul incarnated in a Man which needs a daily routine in order to respect the vessel I have been given to experiment the life journey.
These movement are among the best practices I have ever encounter. I strongly recommend them. At almost 60 I am just a little bit frustrated (thus humbled) while I have to accept I will never ever be able to reach that level :
Thank you madame, I know the basic of Halachic laws.
Your comment implies one thing. Somehow, theologically, your womb, as a "Jewess", is "divinely special" since it is the main gate though which the God of the "Jews" perpetuate the race of his Chosen people. Taken out of religious belief, as a so called secular Jew, what does that mean? The perpetuation of a special "race" of humans? So, do so called secular Jews still consider the womb of Jewesses as divinely the only gateway for Jews to incarnate?
You claim to be a Jewess, right. What does that mean? Can you define that identity,
otherwise than being the daughter of a "sacred womb"? How can you consider it so sacred if you don't believe, follow, the tenets of religious belief and it's practices?
If Judaism is cultural, what is the common culture outside of religion of the Jews prior to the creation of the political Israel? Mizraïm, Beta Israel, Sephardic didn't live as Jews of the Shtetl didn't they? They obviously had different languages, clothing, food, psychology, religious views and organizations and even very different physical features and "racial" differences since ancient Jews converted non Jews like the Berbere for instance.
What about the Felashas? The Israeli state has had a campaign to sterilize many women among that community who consider themselves as religious pious Jews and have been doing so for millennia (the Coptic Church, the Ethiopian Muslims considered them also as Jews) . Of course, powerful beyond measure Ashkanazi religious leaders don't consider them as Jews, thus not really destroying with that sterilization campaign, the famous "magical" womb engendering that "special people", which is becoming harder to understand for the commoner.
I strongly suggest that you listen to that most interesting debate between a intelligent non genocidal Rav and the great Gilad Atzmon who identify as an ex-Jew. Since he has no "magical divine womb to carry", it must be easyer for him.
From my persepective, all women's wombs are sacred Madame. Rastafari Told us the plague of mis-philosophies claiming the superiority of a race on another (and that goes for the Bantu people bullying Pigmees in Africa, etc). It only bring wars and rumour of war, the salivating of the war profiteers.
I'm a non practising Jew. I don't believe we're the "chosen people" I don't believe the Bible is true or accurate. I follow an earth based spiritual path
Bugey's questions are fair, Linda. So far you've said that you are a Jew because you are a "Jew", because your mother was a "Jew". - So,what *is* a Jew? - I don't expect you to answer (though I'd certainly appreciate it if you choose to), but I do hope you consider the question.
Jews are not a "race", not a discrete ethnicity, not a religion, not a nationality.... nothing special, unique or distinct from the rest of mankind, according to your own understanding/beliefs So why continue to identify as a "Jew"? - Particularly given that that choice ultimately, albeit probably unintentionally and unconsciously, provides cover for Messianic supremacists cultists and genocidal Zionists? - Harsh, I know, but nonetheless true. Please don't take it personally, but do take it as food-for-thought. 🙏💚🇵🇸
I was baptised as a Christian when I was around 16 years old. I’m no longer a practicing Christian, therefore I no longer identify as a Christian.
I was given the name Karen when I was born, but “karen” doesn’t define who or what I am. These days I answer to the calling “kali”, but Kali doesn’t define who or what I am.
In your world even the biological sex of your daughters is indefinite and impermanent. Yet your “jewish” identity is somehow fixed? Why so?
When I hear the Rav Shapiro, I get it, The guy is a Jew, a Torah Jew, we then can have a respectful conversation but what is a "non practicing Jew" whose womb is still able to engender "Jewish souls"?
Bon jour Bugey Libra. Very good to hear from you! - I do hope you're still enjoying your beautiful dance of freedom🕺and your community building efforts in Bugey.
The whole point of my article is to get our 'jewish' brothers and sisters to think and reflect on the 'jewish Question' (ie, what exactly IS a Jew) and, of course to drop the divisive ego-identity. Hopefully one or two self-identified Jews will read it. But if a few non-jews (they call us 'goyim') start asking similar questions about what it is to identify as 'jewish', then maybe we can start having the more difficult/challenging conversations right out in the open. And maybe, just maybe, this pernicious problem of 'jewishness' will come to an end. - Time will tell.
Sending lots of love to you and yours Lionel. Take care my friend. xxx
It’s a great piece, sensitive and not brutal, but also direct and uncompromising, a hard act to pull off, but you did it. This is exactly what we need is a discussion of what it means to be a Jew in the midst of a genocide, discussed without rancor but with uncompromising honesty. It deserves wider circulation.
Keeping the love and the compassion flowing could be what ultimately determines how we might evolve as a species… Makes me feel better about things anyway. :)
Same goes for me Jack. I have my (less-conscious) moments of rage too. But given the unmitigated mess the “Jew world order” has made/is making of our nation's and the wider world, who can blame us for lashing out once in a while? xx

Pardon Madame, i have another question that arose with the Gilad thing as a man.
You are not obliged to answer, of course.
Have your son or sons been circumsized ?
I had 3 daughters. Now I have a daughter, trans son and non binary gender neutral kid. No need for circumcisions
I have two daughters. One has chosen to be a fairy rabbit on the vein of the one in Alice in Wonderland while the other identify as a non binary pink rhinoceros. Marvelous! No need for deep philosophical thinking anymore nor intellectual methodology.
They are so special ...

Do you not believe that transgender is real?
I think transgender is a medical procedure (a very lucrative one at that) and I think that’s one of the reasons it's being so strongly pushed onto children these days, alongside an agenda to transform culture and society for the benefit of our liberal overlords
I don’t think it's healthy, but I wouldn’t deem to pronounce on individual cases, especially of people I don’t know.
If you're baptised as a Catholic but don't practice Catholism, you're still Catholic
Why so?
Judaism is a religion. Through the mother it is passed down.
A religion is an ideology. So how is it passed down? You yourself are not religious. So how are you Jewish?
What is a non practicing Jew? A special race?
Take care my friend. xxx
Fantastic article, maybe the best I have read on why the Jewish identity is such a problem.
Wow! Thank you so much for such encouraging words Mr Raven! Overwhelmed!! ☺️
Humbled. - Thank you! :)
Many thanks for your kind words, Jeanne! 🙏😊
Such kind words Jack! Many, many thanks for them.
Keeping the love and the compassion flowing could be what ultimately determines how we might evolve as a species… Makes me feel better about things anyway. :)
Same goes for me Jack. I have my (less-conscious) moments of rage too. But given the unmitigated mess the “Jew world order” has made/is making of our nation's and the wider world, who can blame us for lashing out once in a while? xx
